Leg Problems

Due to work commitments and I went to a High School Wrestling Tournament yesterday to watch a couple of athletes that I trained this past fall I was unable to get in any training over the past few days.
Most of my real training will start right after New Year’s. At this point it hardly feels like I ever stopped. I was very actictive on the bike, August through the second week of November as the weather was really good and the fact that my car engine (2001 Chrysler Concorde) has been recalled. So those of you those have a Chrysler Concorde that was made between 2000-2004 watch out. I spent the past few months biking into work six days a week, 10 miles each way with only one day of rest per week. Furthermore, I continued to run about 10 miles a week. I was stubborn and refused to take the train and paid the price.
I have been getting massages over the past few weeks and I have seen improvement. At first the slightest pressure to my muscles in my legs made me scream out. I mean they really hurt and were super tight. My massage therapist said that the muscles felt like ropes that were over lapped and were almost fussed together due to the fact that I did not allow for rest. She has gotten in and under the muscles to remove the waste product. Thanks to her treatments my legs are on the road to recovery. The only problem areas I still have are my IT Bands and some tissues around the knees that are still sore to the touch.
Well till next time train hard.

Introduction

My name is Wayne Helms last summer I competed in my first Sprint Triathlon.9K swim 24K bike 5K run at the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon. Now I am hooked on triathlon. I have signed up for the Philadelphia Olympic Distance Triathlon in 2008 1.5K swim 40K bike 10K run. I am very excited to step up to the next level and I will try to use this forum to log both by written word and video what it’s like to be a Clydesdale and train for a triathlon.
I have subscribed to Triathlete Magazine and Runner’s World and noticed that all articles are written for the elites and smaller age groupers. None of the articles really spoke to me. Well a little bit about me. I am a former high school and college wrestler as well as a high school coach. I coached the sport on a year round basis for 13 years with in both my wrestling club and regular high school program. Due to my time commitment as a coach I had let my self go and got out of shape. My focus had been on getting my athletes better and not myself. After a full year of Triathlon training I have gotten back on track with my fitness.
I am a much bigger guy. Currently I weigh 260lbs. even after completeing a hydrostatic evaluation I was informed that with out any fat on my body and just the essential tissues to survive I would still weigh only 220lb. I have big legs that everyone calls the, “The Tree Trunks” and wide shoulders. I still have a more then a few pounds to lose. So I am going to log the ups and downs, failures and successes of a triathlete my size.
I am Speed, Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as a personal trainer. I will use my education and background to help log in the appropriate training techniques for others in the Clydesdale and Athena Category to benefit from as well.
I have not really every stopped training but have taken a break form the three sports of a Triathlon (Swim, Bike and Run). Over the past month and half through December has been my off-season where I have been concentrating on weight training for muscle endurance. I have been performing the exercise for forty seconds at a time with half of that for rest to keep my heart rate up and really push my muscles. My average workout session is about 30 to 45 minutes. I will post my workouts on a later blog.
Well until next time Train Hard.
